Rick Derringer, the legendary guitarist, singer, and producer, passed away on May 26, 2025, in Ormond Beach, Florida, at the age of 77. His wife, Jenda Derringer, and close friend Tony Wilson were by his side.
Born Richard Zehringer in Celina, Ohio, Derringer rose to fame at 17 with The McCoys' 1965 No. 1 hit "Hang On Sloopy." He later launched a successful solo career with the 1973 anthem "Rock and Roll, Hoochie Koo." Throughout his six-decade career, Derringer collaborated with numerous artists, including Alice Cooper, Cyndi Lauper, Barbra Streisand, Ringo Starr, Steely Dan, and Kiss. He also produced for "Weird Al" Yankovic, notably the hit parody "Eat It," and composed Hulk Hogan’s iconic WWE theme song "Real American."
