LAPD were assisting California Highway Patrol officers in their search for three suspects from a misdemeanor hit-and-run after CHP responded to reports of a three-car crash, in which three males in one of the involved vehicles fled the freeway on foot, prompting CHP to call L.A. police for backup.
One of the suspects, who was involved the freeway crash, jumped over the freeway barrier and wound up in the Eagle Rock neighborhood, and backyard of Jillian Lauren, author and wife of Weezer bassist Scott Shriner. The suspect stripped down to his boxers, jumped into the pool on Lauren's property in an attempt to blend in.
While police were searching backyards for that suspect police came upon Lauren in the front yard of her neighboring residence, holding a handgun. After refusing multiple orders to drop the firearm Lauren was then struck in the shoulder after she did not lower her weapon upon the police's request.
The suspects fled the scene on foot into Lauren's nearby residential neighborhood, per the Los Angeles Police Department.
After re-entering her residence post shoot-out, Lauren surrendered to police, was then arrested, and taken into custody on suspicion of attempted murder and for allegedly pointing a gun at officers from her front yard, authorities said Wednesday
The 51-year-old Lauren, identified by police as Jillian Shriner and listed as Jillian Lauren Shriner in jail records, had injuries that were not life-threatening after the shooting in the northeast Los Angeles neighborhood of Eagle Rock on Thursday, the LAPD said in a statement.
One of the suspects, a male who is also suspected as the driver, was taken into custody, cited and released, the LAPD said in a statement. Two other suspects remain at large.
According to the same statement by LAPD, both Shriner and the babysitter were questioned about the incident and later released.
