Jed the Fish, the influential Los Angeles radio DJ known for championing alternative music, passed away on April 14, 2025, at the age of 69. The news of his passing was shared on his social media pages. His death was attributed to an aggressive form of lung cancer diagnosed in early March.

Born Edwin Jed Fish Gould III on July 15, 1955, he began his radio career in high school and later graduated from USC's Annenberg School of Journalism. Jed became a defining voice on KROQ-FM from 1978 to 2012, where he was instrumental in introducing American audiences to bands like Depeche Mode, Duran Duran, and the Pretenders. His distinctive on-air style and insightful interviews with artists such as David Bowie and Elvis Costello helped shape KROQ's legacy as a powerhouse in alternative rock radio.

After his tenure at KROQ, Jed continued his broadcasting career at stations including KCSN and KLOS, and in 2019 returned to KROQ HD2's "Roq of the 80s" temporarily when the channel was relaunched by the former Radio.com, which rebranded as Audacy in 2021.

Through the years Gould's contributions to radio were recognized with multiple awards, including Billboard’s Modern Rock Personality of the Year.
